A group of young performing arts enthusiasts from the Amy Foundation will showcase their talent at the 4th annual Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN on Sunday, 20 May 2018.
Formerly known as the Amy Biehl Foundation, the Amy Foundation was established in 1997 and is a non-profit organisation that specialises in after school care programmes that develop and empower children and youth (5-25 years of age) in challenged and vulnerable communities in the Western Cape.
“The programmes include literacy, numeracy, HIV/AIDS prevention, dance, sport, drama, music and many more,” says Zukiswa Tsewu, Arts and Culture Coordinator of the Amy Foundation. “These programmes are designed to unlock creative talent and supplement the shortcomings of the educational system, whilst keeping the children off the streets and away from the negative influences that are so easily accessible to them. By being part of the Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN, we are able to give young people from the Gugulethu Township an opportunity to showcase their talent. It also serves as a source of income for the Foundation as we are dependent on sponsorships. All funding raised will go back into the Foundation.”
“The 2017 event was very exciting for the groups,” continues Tsewu. “They enjoyed a lot of attention and appreciation from the runners. The vibe was a definite highlight. This year runners can look forward to an energetic, vibrant group of dancers that will collaborate with a Marimba Band, bringing a lovely African vibe.
Other performing arts groups to look out for will include: AfroBeat, Field Band Foundations and Fairmont High’s Majorettes.
