The Mother City will be buzzing with excitement on Sunday, 20 May 2018 when a host of SA’s leading performing arts groups entertain the masses at the 4th annual Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN.
Performing arts groups to look out for on the day will include: AfroBeat: Djembe Drummers, Field Band Foundation: The Cape Whalers Field Band, Drum Café: Djembe Drummers and Dancers, the Waterfront Theatre School, Fairmont Drum Majorettes and the Amy Foundation: Drummers and Dancers.
AfroBeat Drumming runs drum circles for team building, parties and functions. Drumming is an ideal way to bring staff together in a fun relaxed environment as part of a Team Building exercise. It creates a unity which will remain long after the drumming is over.
“The Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN gives us the ideal opportunity to drum together as a group and share our love and passion for djembe drumming,” says David Keuning, owner and principal djembe drummer of AfroBeat Drumming. “The group will consist of drummers from AfroBeat Drumming as well as the Drumba Community Project with whom we’ve partnered for the event. We look forward to meeting other drumming enthusiasts. Runners and spectators can expect a great vibe as we beat our drums to inspire runners to push ahead.”

The Field Band Foundation creates opportunities for the development and self-empowerment of young South Africans through participation in music, dance and active citizenship projects. Using the model of large scale marching bands, life skills and integrated health education are taught to youth between the ages of 7 and 21.
“The Cape Whalers Field Band is a project of the Field Band Foundation and services the Cloetesville and Macassar areas within the Stellenbosch municipality,” says Irene Okoye, Business Development Manager Field Band Foundation. “Runners and spectators will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the vibrancy and joy that comes from belonging to a Field Band. Although our young band members are not music professionals, an event like the Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN allows them the platform to improve their skills. Runners can look forward to afro-jazz classics and popular pop renditions, high energy levels from the band, joy, vibrancy and a very engaging performance.”
