Cape Town – A record field of over 13 000 runners will take the Mother City by storm on Sunday, 21 May 2017 at the 3rd annual Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN.

Starting at Woodbridge Island (Milnerton) at 09:00, the Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN celebrates the brilliance of Cape Town and its beautiful surrounds.  The route will guide runners along the  coastline through the Harbour, past key city landmarks, including Cape Town Harbour, Grand Parade and the V&A waterfront, before finishing at the Portside building in the heart of Cape Town.

“It’s not only the runners that can look forward to a memorable experience,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “Family members and friends are invited to join in on the fun by showing support either at the start, at various vantage points on route or at the finish in Bree Street.  We have proudly invested in a number of South Africa’s leading performing arts groups that are making a notable difference in their communities.  These groups will be the source of endless on route entertainment.”

Leading performing arts groups to look out for on the day will include:  Limited Edition Drum Corps, the Western Province Marching Association, Drum Café, URC (United Reformed Church), Waterfront Theatre School Hype Group, Fairmont High Majorettes and budding artists from the Amy Foundation to mention just a few.

This year the Absa Cape Town 12 ONERUN will feature an exciting #ForeverFaster PUMA ‘Beat Bolt’ on route competition.

According to Brett Bellinger, Marketing Director of PUMA South Africa, PUMA’s ‘Beat Bolt’ competition is a fun way to generate additional hype on route while encouraging both runner and spectator interaction.  “Essentially the activation will be a #ForeverFaster 100m sprint.  It’s a ‘Beat Bolt’ competition so of course it will require speed.  This section of the route will be timed.  The runner (male and female) to clock the fastest time over 100m will take home a PUMA shopping voucher to the value of R10 000.  We look forward to seeing the impressive times that this competition will deliver on race day.”

Adding to the excitement the Cape’s No. 1 Hit Music Station, KFM, will also be out in full force with a number of their presenters motivating runners and walkers in the final stretch of the race.
