DHL has announced a very exciting campaign that encourages Absa Run Your City Series (RYCS) Heritage Day Virtual Run (taking place on Thursday 24 September 2020) entrants to donate their ‘pre-loved’ shoes to the event’s various charities, and the DHL Stormers are excited to play their part.
“We love that the Absa Run Your City Series will go Virtual on National Heritage Day,” says Megan Collinicos, VP Marketing – DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa. “The events calendar has been pretty much non-existent for the past few months, so it’s very exciting to have something to look forward to while leveraging the power of digital connection. This year, we wanted to include a special call to action and make a difference through our partnership. With this campaign, we are extremely proud to play our part in supporting the charities associated with the race.”
“Each entry into the Virtual Run received their Race Packs in a DHL box,” continues Collinicos. “The box is perfectly sized to take a pair of their ‘pre-loved’ (that are no longer being used) running shoes. DHL is asking runners to donate these shoes to someone in need. Simply drop your DHL box packed with a pair of your pre-loved running shoes at any DHL outlet before the 5th of October 2020 and DHL will deliver them to charities associated with the race. When dropping off the shoes, runners will also receive a 20% DHL Express discount voucher for shipping that same box size to any destination across the world which can be used before 15 October 2020. DHL Stormers captain Siya Kolisi said that the team is proud to support such a worthy initiative.
“It is fantastic to see our title sponsors DHL backing such a good cause which encourages people to be active through the Run Your City Series (RYCS) Heritage Day Virtual Run, while also providing for those less fortunate through the Shoe Drive,” he said.
DHL Stormers lock Chris van Zyl said that the team would love to see the Faithful show their support for both the virtual run and the shoe drive.
“This is a great way for people to come together while keeping their social distance and we would love to see our loyal supporters show the enthusiasm they are known for by getting out there for the virtual run and donating their old shoes to those that are in need,” he said.

Tracking App: The RYCS Tracking App is READY to be downloaded from the Google Play and Apple App Store. The Tracking App must be used to track runner’s progress on their actual route, while showing their ‘virtual position’ on the Cape Town, Durban or Joburg event routes.
