Taking place on Thursday 24 September 2020, the Absa Run Your City Series (RYCS) Heritage Day Virtual Run has attracted the attention of twenty-five teachers (including the Principal) of Dagbreek Primary School in Carletonville (West Rand, Gauteng).

According to Pieter van Heerden, Principal at Dagbreek Primary School, the Absa RYCS Heritage Day Virtual Run has proven to be a great team building exercise for the teachers (and learners) at the school.  “It has become a great opportunity for the school and friends of the school to motivate and support one another in these trying times (referring to the COVID-19 pandemic).  Team building exercises are extremely important as personal wellness is key in our line of work.  We’ve been supporting and motivating each other while preparing for the Virtual Run together.  We are extremely excited to run on Heritage Day and would like to challenge all neighbouring schools to join in on the fun.”

Grade 7 Social Science Teacher and Grade 2 – 7 Life Orientation Teacher, Thabo Molete, has been the driving force behind the school’s entry.  “The Virtual Run is the best thing that could’ve happened to our school in these trying times.  We’ve been training, but without any goals.  That’s until the Absa RYCS launched the Virtual Run.  Now there is a goal to work towards together, and we’ve had many first timers start to train with us.  It’s always a nice experience to run and explore the city. What’s even more exciting is to run with your colleagues. We are a fantastic team and are going to look great in the Absa turquoise event t-shirt on race day.  The goal is to see who will have the most fun.  Once we’re done we’re obviously going to close off with a braai.”

Molete is no stranger to the Absa RYCS.  As a commentator his role is to motivate runners.  This year, however, he will be seen lacing up his takkies and competing for the coveted title of Fastest Commentator in the much anticipated “Battle of the Commentators” competition.  Molete will go up against fellow commentators Altus Schreuder, Sipho Mona and Sean Falconer.  To find out more visit CLICK HERE
