The organizers of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K have announced an exciting new route for the event, taking place on Sunday 15 May 2022, which incorporates new and exciting sections.
Starting in Woodbridge Island, Milnerton as per previous years, the route will run into Cape Town, with runners being able to cover the fastest and flattest route ever designed. This will include a 1,7km section of the N1 highway, giving runners a unique perspective of Cape Town, as they make their way to the finish in Long Street, in the city bowl.
“We are thrilled to include the N1 highway as part of the Absa RYC CAPE TOWN 10K route in 2022. This inclusion will certainly make the event even more special for every single runner,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RYC Series. “We are the first event to be granted the privilege of running on the N1 for more than a kilometre. We are extremely thankful to the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Provincial Government for this incredible opportunity that is guaranteed to elevate the event experience on Sunday 15 May.”
The Absa RYC CAPE TOWN 10K will once again be a point-to-point race, but this year, with the inclusion of the section on the N1, it will be faster and flatter. Starting at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, runners will be guided along Marine Drive before looping on the ramp onto the N1. The route will then proceed along the N1 highway until the vibrant spirit of Cape Town’s inner city is reached, with the finish ready to welcome runners in Lower Long Street. The fast flat route combined with the exceptionally strong field of local and international athletes is the perfect recipe for an extremely fast race both in the men’s and women’s category with a definite possibility of new 10km records being set.
Meyers adds: “With the best ever field of international and local runners assembled, the new route will certainly encourage them to run world class times. It is going to be extremely exciting to see how fast they can go.”

Although the Absa RYC CAPE TOWN 10K features an impressive elite racing element, it remains a proudly South African, proudly Cape Town must do mass participation road running event that celebrates everything Cape Town – the vibe, the city and the people.
“We pride ourselves on hosting an event that not only allows SA’s elite athletes to compete against the world’s best runners on home soil, but also gives the everyday runner the opportunity to experience a world class event,” continues Meyer. “With Table Mountain as a magnificent backdrop, the route will incorporate Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks while featuring jam-packed lively performances from some of Cape Town’s leading performing arts groups. Our sponsors have also jumped at the opportunity to keep entrants entertained. Look forward to experiencing a vibrant Absa encouragement point, the fast-paced PUMA Beat Bolt Sprint and the fantastic ‘DHL Mile To Go’.
